Iftar is the evening meal that is eaten by Muslims after sunset during the holy month of Ramadan. It is the meal that breaks the fast that Muslims observe from dawn to sunset during Ramadan.
Muslims traditionally break their fast by eating dates and drinking water, in accordance with the practice of Prophet Muhammad, before beginning the iftar meal. The iftar meal is often a festive occasion.
In Malaysia, many Malaysians choose to go to hotels to buka puasa (break fast) together with family, friends, or colleagues. The atmosphere of a Ramadan buffet is often festive and welcoming to enjoy the meal while celebrating the spirit of Ramadan.
